Athletics
A World of Difference
Goals: To give the students a sense of awareness of all the “isms” (i.e., racism, sexism, ageism, etc.) To give members the opportunity to share their knowledge of tolerance and respect with their peers. To have members demonstrate their knowledge by going into the classroom and present various topics to their peers.
African Alliance
Goals: To increase awareness of African-American culture through a variety of artistic experiences. To connect the current “youth” African-American experience to the past. To build respect for one another and other cultures.
Albanian
Goal: To provide an opportunity for the SCA community to learn about the culture, customs, history and achievements of the Albanian people.
Art
Goals: To let students explore the different sides of their creativity. Students will engage in the Arts through collaborative projects, independent projects, art history and art criticism. Students will learn how to express themselves individually with creativity, imagination and originality.
Asian
Goal: To enrich our understanding of Asian culture; To provide an opportunity for the SCA community to learn more about the culture, customs, history and achievements of Asians.
Campus Ministry
Goal: To assist with the planning and preparation of liturgies; to enhance the spiritual and religious life of the school; to deepen appreciation of the Christian faith, the Catholic tradition and the life of Mercy.
Drama
Goals: To enhance acting skills of members and build confidence as public speakers/actors. They will participate in approximately two shows per year and learn all facets of producing a dramatic show – backstage, lighting, sets, etc.
Il Club Italiano
Goals: To foster an appreciation for Italian culture; to work within the school community to foster an understanding of cultural differences; to foster a sense of service by club members for people outside of school.
La Sociedad Latina
Goals: To enrich our understanding of Spanish culture; to increase knowledge of Spanish culture among students.
Liturgies and Prayer Services
Saint Catharine Academy has a variety of activities throughout the school year to enable and encourage students to grow in their relationship with God.. These activities include prayer experiences, liturgies, and opportunities to serve. Celebrations of the Eucharist and other opportunities are scheduled at appropriate times of the year.
Mentoring Program
Selected juniors are matched individually with professional women in a field related to their career interest. The mentoring relationship provides hands-on experiences in a possible future career as well as offering the opportunity to gain insight into the complex lives of professional women, the choices they must make, and the effort required to balance priorities. The mentors come from a variety of fields including education, health and medicine, social services, business and management, public service and media.
Middle Eastern Club
The Middle-Eastern club To enrich our understanding of the many cultures within the Middle East and foster a greater tolerance of our differences.
National Honor Society
Requirements for Membership
To be eligible for membership in the Society, students must meet requirements in scholarship, leadership, service to school and community, and character.
Part One: Scholarship
Scholarship is judged by academic achievement.
The student will demonstrate scholarship by:
1. Maintaining a weighted cumulative average of 88.0% at the conclusion of the freshman, sophomore and junior years.
2. Continuing to maintain a cumulative average of 88.0% for the first, second and third quarters of the senior year.<
3. Maintaining a passing final average grade in each course.
Part Two: Leadership
Leadership is judged in terms of the self-confidence, initiative and spirit of sacrifice of the student.
In addition, she must demonstrate outstanding responsibility and dependability and exhibit a positive attitude toward the students and the faculty.
The student will exercise leadership by:
1. Holding school offices or positions of responsibility and by conducting business efficiently and effectively.
2. Demonstrating leadership in promoting school activities.
3. Exercising influence on peers in upholding school ideals.
4. Contributing ideas that improve the civic life of the school.
5. Delegating responsibilities.
Part Three: Character
Character is judged by the pattern of behavior and the qualities that distinguish a person.
The student will demonstrate strength of character by:
1. Maintaining the highest standards of honesty, personal integrity and reliability.
2. Showing courtesy, concern, support and respect for others.
3. Complying with school regulations.
4. Taking criticism willingly and accepting recommendations graciously.
Part Four: Service
Service is judged in terms of a student's attitude and support by giving voluntary, meaningful service to the school and to the community.
The student will exhibit the quality of service by:
1. Completing forty hours of volunteer service (junior candidates).
2. Completing one mandatory N.H.S. sponsored project.
3. Demonstrating commitment as a volunteer.
4. Rendering service as needed and requested at school based activities.
5. Participating in a community based activity.
Nutrition/Aerobics
Goals: To provide awareness of healthy living by learning pertinent information about nutrition and fitness; to learn muscle groups, burn calories, trim waist, buns and thigh areas; to develop muscle tone with “Funk” exercise and Tae-Bo.
Phoenix (Newspaper)
Goals: To produce a quality newspaper at least once each quarter; to cover all of the school's activities and significant events in a quality way.
Rock Music Club
The Rock Music club–A club consisting of young women who love to listen and play Contemporary Music. Many of the members are talented musicians and singers.
Step Team / Hip-Hop
Goals: To increase awareness of African-American culture through a variety of artistic experiences; to connect the current “youth” African-American experience to the past; to build respect for one another and other cultures.
Student Council
Goals: To represent and implement the opinions, ideas and needs of the student body; To create a positive atmosphere for learning, growth and appreciation; to encourage service to all members of the school and the local community; to promote unity within the school.
Through the Looking Glass
Goals: To offer all students a chance to express themselves creatively through photographs, poetry, narratives and artwork. Club members will have the opportunity to learn to manage the various levels of the magazine's production process and produce two to three issues per year. Student poetry will be showcased through the medium of poetry coffeehouses.
Yearbook
Goals: To produce a unique yearbook that reflects the graduating class and their four years at SCA.
