The St. Catharine Academy Mission

St. Catharine Academy, a Catholic Mercy school for girls, has been a symbol of excellence in Catholic high school education in New York City since its founding by the Sisters of Mercy in 1889.  It is now embarking on a new chapter!  Beginning September 2023, we are thrilled to extend our legacy of academic excellence for girls to an even broader spectrum of students, encompassing grades 6 through 12.

Over the past 134 years, St. Catharine's mission has always been to prepare young women in the Mercy tradition for college success, leadership, and engagement in the world community. We are rooted in the Gospel through the Catholic faith and the spirit of Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy.  Our inclusive nature encourages learning about and sharing the gifts of other faith traditions.  We foster a safe and healthy environment where every girl feels respected and connected to one another.  At SCA, we call it sisterhood.
